There has been a tremendous buzz around Kona - the first subcompact SUV from South Korean auto giants Hyundai Motors. Expected to be showcased later in the year, the company recently released a teaser video (link below) of the car and received a positive response online.
Hyundai first confirmed Kona in a global press release last month. In it, the company said that the vehicle would be positioned in the B-SUV segment and that it has been developed with a 'focus on enhancing driving dynamics.' It promises to deliver 'best-in-class interior space and innovative design features that hint at the future direction of the brand's next generation of SUV models,' the statement further read.
As with teaser videos, only glimpses of the cars are visible.
Yet, it is clear that the 'Fluidic Styling' has been generously incorporated in the Kona which gets an imposing front grille and contemporary alloys. Based on the i20, Kona also gets slim LED head lights and tail lights. Expected to be rolled out in Europe and then Australia, the Kona may get a 1.6-litre engine in its top-most variant.
There is no word on an India launch but the company is unlikely to keep the country waiting - especially as
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza continues to dominate the expanding sub-compact SUV segment here.
